CompTIA Continuing Education Program

As technology continues to evolve, it is important for IT professionals to show employers that their skills, knowledge and credentials are current with industry developments. You can do this through the CompTIA Continuing Education Program.

The following certifications are valid for three years from the date of certification. If you do not renew your certification within three years, you will no longer be certified and must retake the exam to reactivate your certification.

How to Renew Your CompTIA Certification

An active CompTIA certification is an important tool to showcase your expert knowledge. We’re here to help you keep your certification current.

You have three options to renew your certification:

Pass the most current version of the exam for your respective existing certification.
Earn a qualifying higher-level CompTIA certification or other industry certification.
Complete Continuing Education (CE) activities and earn a sufficient number of Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

1. Renew with CE activities in 4 easy steps

Log in to your certification account and click the “Certifications” tab to review the status of your certification(s). You’ll find one of the following:

Your certification was issued on or after January 1, 2011, and is active.
Your certification was issued on or after January 1, 2011, and has expired. You’ll need to pass the current version of the exam to regain certification.
Your certification was issued before January 1, 2011, which means your certification is good for life (GFL). Learn more about GFL certifications.
You have multiple active certifications. Learn more about renewing multiple certifications.

2. Agree to the CE Program Code of Ethics

You will be prompted to agree to the CE Program Code of Ethics policy in your certification account on an annual basis. This must be done before you’ll be able to make payments or submit CEUs.

3. Make your CE renewal payment

Your certification renewal requirements include annual CE fees. Learn more about the payment process for employees of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

4. Complete CE activities and submit for CEUs

You’ll need to complete CE activities, which will earn you CEUs. Learn more about the types of CE activities, the number of CEUs you can earn and what’s required in order to submit the CEUs to your certification account.

Renew with a higher level CompTIA certification

Earning a higher level CompTIA certification will automatically renew your existing, lower level CompTIA certification(s). If you have multiple CompTIA certifications, you may maintain all of your CompTIA certifications by renewing only your highest level CompTIA certification.

Renew with other IT industry certifications

Other IT industry certifications you earn may qualify for CEUs toward your renewal. Select the certification you intend to renew below to see which other CompTIA certifications and other IT industry certifications will count towards your renewal.
