I would recommend CBTXpress to anyone wanting to prepare for their certification exam. The Test Prep sent before class sets students up to better understand and receive the material that is presented during the in-person session. Its very important to run through the Test Prep at least 10 times before arriving so you can make connections and focus on getting answers to the areas that you found difficult. The material is presented in a very clear, rapid manner, however because the in classroom time is very limited there really isnt a lot of time for too much question-answer. Best of Luck to you!

"I did not have much hope that I would be able to pass the test when I arrived at class, but my instructor said he had confidence in me, and that if I would follow his instructions and keep taking the practice exams that I would make it. "It's an understatement, but I thought the A+ class was well worth the price of admission."

I'm a former Air Force Education and Training Command Master Instructor and in that capacity I spent several thousand hours delivering IT courses to both military and civilian personnel. I was also an Instructor Supervisor in the military and an IT Training Division Supervisor in the private sector. In both of these jobs, I was responsible for professional development and the critical evaluation of both instructors and educational content, so I know whereof I speak with regards to what constitutes effective training. With my background, I'm a pretty tough critic of both course content and instructor ability. Instructors make the worst students.

Before I detail my positive experience with CBT XPress, I'd like to provide some contrast as I recently took a 5-Day Security Plus course taught by a (competitor’s company name) instructor. To put it bluntly, I was thoroughly disappointed by both the course structure and content of the new (competitor’s company name) class. I was given an opportunity to critique the course immediately following its completion but BEFORE I took the COMPTIA exam. At that time, I conveyed my sincerely negative assessment of the course content and my disappointment with the instructor’s professional skills (vocalized pauses, poor questioning technique, inability to relate course material to relevant examples, etc). After taking the exam, I was even more disgusted with the complete inability of that 5-day course to adequately prepare anyone to take the Security Plus exam. I had the good fortune of being one of the last of my classmates to take the exam, and their failures (lucky for me) paved the way for my success. I discovered from them that I'd have to completely disregard nearly everything covered during the formal instruction and focus on taking practice tests to get by. I'm pretty sure I was the only one of the class to successfully complete the test on the first attempt but only did so by a narrow margin.

I was, however, very impressed with every aspect of the CBT XPress A+ Certification course. I thought the course content, pacing, the overall organization and (above all) the instructor's ability to convey the information was first rate. In just over two academic days, he was able to cover a phenomenal amount of material and effectively deliver it to a diverse group of students. The real proof of the quality of the instruction provided was evident immediately following the successful completion of the two difficult exams. Our instructor did an excellent job of preparing the class for the exams and instilling confidence in the student's grasp of the material. He was also able to credibly provide the students with insight into the way the test questions should be interpreted, minimizing the possibility that a student would be fooled by a ‘trick’ question. I went into both exams fully confident that I'd been adequately prepared to do well and I was able to pass them easily and attain my A+ certification.

Please pass along to my instructor my appreciation on a job well done. He's probably already heard this once or twice, but he's an excellent stand-up instructor - easily one of the best I've ever observed."

I am writing this to you to tell you I have landed my career.

"I was looking for a full time career in IT for over five years. I was picking up small contracts and working odd jobs at all different hours. It was frustrating not being able to find something that would finally come through. This year, I sent my resume everywhere, tried all of the job boards and local head hunters. To my frustration, I found that my 19 years of experience just wasn't sufficient; my skills were great but the employer needed me to be certified. I met with several head hunters and they all said the same: “Maybe certification would help you get noticed.” So, I mentioned to my head hunter that all I needed was a week and I would have my certification. I was not going to waste any time.

I was only going to get my A+ certification, but when I talked to the Training Advisor at CBT XPress, we had a wonderful discussion. He made mention that it would be better to do the nine-day intense training and not only get certified in A+, but Network+ and Security+, too. During my Boot Camp training, I received a call from the head hunter that had suggested I get certified. She had a new job posting for me but was hesitant to call me as it required a Network+ cert. What amazed me most is that this call came to me the evening of my successful completion of the Network+ portion of the course! I landed the interview immediately after I arrived back home.

I went to the interview but unfortunately it didn't work out for me. I was not upset, though, as I knew that a change was about to occur. As soon as I received my certification logos, I added them to my resume and started resending it. And within a week I received a call for another position at a different company. The first interview was over the phone; after the first opening greeting the interviewer mentioned that my resume really popped out at her. I believe that my certification logos helped immensely. After the interview, she mentioned that I would have a technical review. To my amazement the tech review was all about Network+ and A+. I remember thinking that they had practically copied the exam that I had taken, it was so familiar to me. I was immensely happy that I had taken the initiative and completed not one but three certifications.

First, I think you should have some experience (I would recommend a solid two years), before taking any of the A+ boot camp courses.

I had an excellent instructor. He was patient, thorough, and considerate and has way too many certifications to list here. There was no question that went unanswered; no matter how many times it was asked or who asked it. He will help you in any way he can.

Mental attitude: I took all three A+ classes in a 9-day Boot Camp. There were five of us that did this. I changed my mindset to that of giving up my normal day-to-day routine and really focused on studying. I found when I got there that that was pretty much what every other student was doing.

Support: There are practice exams available to you to take in your room so I highly recommend you borrow, buy or beg for a laptop to bring so you can take them in your room. (It was much easier for me to take a practice exam in my room after a shower than having to get dressed at 9PM, go downstairs, etc.). I took each exam 4-6 times before the real test and they definitely helped. All of the other students agreed. Then, you’ll end up talking about questions and concepts when you eat and take breaks with the other students; I can’t tell you how much this reinforces what you learn. It is an important part of the learning process.

Changes: If you don’t make a change, don’t expect a change. This requires discipline. My class didn’t go out to a movie or the beach. I watched the morning news on CNN; I went to the mini-gym to do some free weights to get the blood going during breaks; and I swam in the pool to relax after class – but that’s it.

This is not a daunting task but it does require dedication. You will probably not pass a “practice” exam the first time you take it. None of us did. Listen to your instructor, take notes, pay attention and above all, ask questions. There is a method to this madness…and it works."

"I just wanted to share my thoughts on my CBT XPress Boot Camp experience with you. First, I did pass all of the certification exams. Even though I didn't get 100% of the questions correct, I knew enough at test time to do well. Considering that I've not previously worked on hardware, with networking or been in security, that in itself is remarkable! In addition, I learned it well enough to feel comfortable in conversations with people in those fields.

The biggest reason for my personal success was the instructor. He is an exceptional instructor (an amazing feat for a computer geek) - very personable and likeable! He was very patient with all of us, answered any questions we had without hesitation, and always knew what he was talking about. He made sure that we not only knew the answers, but could logically reason out the questions and derive the answers based on our understanding of the concepts and protocols. He also showed consideration for us by letting us get up and move around frequently.

The only negative thing I can say about the experience is how tired I was! Of course, this in no way reflects on the course or the instructor. I was totally committed to making sure I could pass those certification tests that I spent every day studying until 8:30 or 9:00 each night, and was there studying from 6:00 in the morning, but that schedule wasn't necessary for most of the other students. Plus, I was not staying at the facility, so I had some travel time in my schedule while most of the others had that added convenience that would have made all the difference for me!

I must admit that this Boot Camp was an excellent experience for me. When it was all said and done, I felt like I could do anything if I tried. So, I may be back for additional studies in the future, and I will certainly recommend CBT XPress' certification Boot Camps to others!"

"THE fast and efficient way to get certified! You are told what you need to do to be prepared for the exams. If you follow the CBT XPress plan, you WILL pass!

The course was fast, but awesome! Our CBT XPress instructor, knew his stuff and was not afraid to answer our questions! We were not rushed, but at the same time our CBT XPress instructor kept his no nonsense approach. The test prep was brutal and seemed impossible, but keep in mind after the first day, you should only get 50%. Make sure you do the test prep as many times as possible, even if you think you don’t need to. I thought I didn’t and got a 45% on the first test prep, but after 11 preps, I passed with a 95% average on both real tests."
